Take a look back at the 2017 Neustadt Festival, where you can watch inspiring poetry readings by members of the 2018 Neustadt Prize jury and dance performances by students from OU’s Contemporary Dance Oklahoma ensemble. Poets Sasha Pimentel, Major Jackson, Ladan Osman, and Mahtem Shiferraw all read from their recent or forthcoming works, while the OU dance students performed adaptations of poems from How I Discovered Poetry, NSK laureate Marilyn Nelson’s powerful Civil Rights–era memoir in poetry, with music and original choreography by Austin Hartel and Roxanne Lyst as well as dramatic readings of the poems by OU School of Drama student Alexis Ward.
Lastly, you can watch Nelson’s acceptance speech for the 2017 NSK Neustadt Prize where she ends the evening with a warm and inviting reading of her children’s picture book Ostrich and Lark.
