The finalists for the 2016 Neustadt International Prize for Literature were announced this week. The list included nine writers from around the world, with the majority being women writers.
Neustadt laureate Elizabeth Bishop served as the inspiration for filmmaker and videographer Barbara Hammer. Hammer is premiering a new film—Welcome to This House, a Film on Elizabeth Bishop —at the 2015 Inside Out Film Festival in Toronto on May 30. In 2013 Hammer received a Guggenheim Fellowship for her Elizabeth Bishop film “Waking Up Together.”

Lit Prizes and Festivals
Australian writer Don Watson’s The Bush received the Book of the Year in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. His book combines social history, travelogue, nature writing, and memoir. It also won the Douglas Stewart Prize for Nonfiction.
The 2015 Alberta Literary Awards were announced this week and honored nine writers in fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry, children’s literature, and more.
The Penny Dreadful Prize was established to honor the undervalued literary form of the novella.
