Recent Neustadt juror Deji Olukotun’s novel Nigerians in Space received this nice write-up by award-winning poet Tade Ipadeola.
The North Haven Library is releasing Neustadt prizewinner Elizabeth Bishop’s summer journals written in North Haven from 1974 to 1979. The book will be released this July, and a symposium commemorating the release is scheduled for August.
2010 Neustadt juror Etgar Keret’s sixth short-story collection, Suddenly A Knock at the Door, is the first Israeli literary work to be translated into the Vietnamese language. Keret’s books have been published in 36 languages and 39 countries across the world.
Lit Prizes and Festivals
Guyanese writer Imam Baksh was awarded the Burt Award for Caribbean Literature for his first full-length novel.
The Queensland Government has decided to bring back public funding for its literary awards. The former premier, Campbell Newman, stopped funding in 2012 based on tax money concerns. The current premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, has committed $125,000 for the awards, as well as establishing three new awards for adults and young writers to further develop Queensland voices.
The Royal Society of Literature will award the RSL Ondaatje Prize from among six shortlisted books. This award is offered to distinguished fiction, nonfiction, or poetry that evokes a spirit of place. Read excerpts from the six shortlisted books.
