South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma wrote a response to Neustadt prizewinner Mia Couto’s open letter. Zuma addresses the recent attacks on foreigners in South Africa and mentions how Mozambique became his second home.
Recent Neustadt juror Andrew Lam and his family were some of the first people to escape from Saigon after the Vietnam War. This April marks forty years since Lam escaped Vietnam, and in this PRI broadcast he retraces his journey to the US, including visiting the Vietnamese restaurant his family opened outside of San Francisco.

Lit Prizes
The International Poetry Festival, which takes place in Delhi and Mumbai, will highlight Urdu and Hindi literature. The festival features prominent Urdu poets such as Peerzada Qasim, Gopal Dass Neeraj, Ashok Chakradhar, and Uday Pratap Singh.
